Classes: Bellaire High School Dance offers four levels of dance: Advanced Dance – eMOTION Company Classes – 2nd and 3rd periods TRYOUTS REQUIRED – AFTER SCHOOL PRACTICES REQUIRED eMOTION Dance Company offers two dance classes (either Dance 1-4 fine arts credits or PE Aerobic credit): Dance Production 1-4 for Hip Hop/Break Dance – 2nd period, Korman/Morgado Modern Dance 1-4 – 3rd period, Korman Students are selected through audition. eMOTION is a performing group of students and therefore, students are required to maintain passing grades by UIL rules or Texas ‘No Pass – No Play’ rule. This class also provides opportunities for students to develop their own choreographic skills and to present their creations in two mandatory shows each year. By mastering choreographic and performance dance skills, students will develop dance technique and skills on the advanced level that is also required for competitions. eMOTION Dance Company participates in a variety of dance competitions, performances and other events throughout the year. Intermediate Dance - Dance Composition 2-4 -4th period, Korman NO TRYOUTS REQUIRED – NO PRACTICES AFTER SCHOOL This class provides an opportunity to students to: gain significant knowledge of dance elements, principles, and concepts; develop and apply an understanding of basic principles of choreography; apply knowledge, skills, and techniques of dance in formal dance presentations; build personal criteria for the evaluation of non-professional and professional dance performance and study; effectively communicate ideas, thoughts, and feelings through dance. Both written and practical assessments are administered throughout the year. This course fulfills fine arts credits as electives: Dance 2, 3, and 4. Principles of Dance 1- offered 1st and 6th periods, Korman NO TRYOUTS REQUIRED – NO PRACTICES AFTER SCHOOL Principles of Dance 1 / PE Aerobic through dance program provides an opportunity for students to experience lifetime activities through different dance styles that promote the concept of fitness for life. The instructional units focus on basic conditioning, basic dance styles and technique, as well as recreational, group and individual dance activities. Both written and practical assessments are administered throughout the year. This course fulfills fine arts credit requirement: Dance 1 or 2 and/or PE credit requirement, offered all year long. Beginning Break Dance 1-4 – 5th period, Morgado/Korman NO TRYOUTS REQUIRED – NO PRACTICES AFTER SCHOOL Beginning Break Dance 1 / PE Aerobic through dance program provides an opportunity for students to experience lifetime activities through basic skills of break dance styles that promote the concept of fitness for life. The instructional units focus on basic conditioning, basic break dance styles and technique, as well as recreational, group and individual break dance activities. Both written and practical assessments are administered throughout the year. This course fulfills fine arts credit requirement: Dance 1 or 2 and/or PE credit requirement, offered all year long.
